The MemNet Self-Service Module utilises the DNN Content Management System (CMS) to manage member login credentials. This allows a member who has forgotten their password to reset it using the built in DNN functionality. This is available from the login page and on entering their username they will be sent an email with a password reset link.
You can view a person's username under the General Information section in MemNet under the person's profile. It is labelled Login. If this area is blank then the person has never registered for a username and can do so on the website (if supported by your MemNet configuration)
The password reset email is sent to the email address held within DNN, this email address, along with the rest of their DNN profile is updated from MemNet every time the member logs in. A situation can arise whereby the members' email address has been updated in MemNet and then they attempt to retrieve their password before logging in again. This results in the password being sent to their 'old' email address, not the new one. If this occurs, website administrators can access the members profile within DNN, update their email address and the reset password email will then be sent to the correct email address.
The steps to access the email address of the member's profile are as follows:
- Login to the website (DNN) as an administrator or with an account with the necessary permissions. This will usually be the one you use to manage the website content.
- If you see a black bar at the top of the page, Go to admin (this will be at the very top of the page) and select User Accounts from either the pop up menu displayed when you point to Admin or on the Admin page.
If you see a black bar down the left side of the page (the Persona Bar) go to the Manage menu (the second icon with the crossed spanners) and Select Users from the fly out menu. - On the User Accounts view locate the member using the search fields above the grid, you can search by any value.
- Once you have located the member, click the edit icon or Account Settings icon (depending on the version) at the beginning of the row, this will look like a pencil or a cog. If you do not see this icon ensure the site is set in edit mode, this is done by clicking the Edit Page button at the very top of the page.
- You will now be able to edit the users email address and click the update or Save button to save.
Note: If necessary you can change the email address to be your own or any other email address and have the reset link sent to you. Once the account has been accessed again the email address and other details will be updated from MemNet. This occurs on every login to a members account on the website.
As a last resort, a user with administrator access can set a users password within the users profile (this is a separate tab or link where you change the email address). For security reasons, it is preferable that the member set their own password so that only they know what the password is.
