Email Templates are used in MemNet to allow you to create form emails and/or starting points for your email communications. You can select an email template whenever create a bulk or individual email to be sent from MemNet.
Email Templates are fund in MemNet under Mail Generation / Email Templates.
Managing templates
You can search for existing templates by name (description), template type and/or editor type (see below). Results can be ordered by name, date last modified (useful for finding recently edited templates) or the user who last modified.
There are a number of system email templates, which are hidden from this list by default but can be viewed or added to the search results by including them in the search. These emails can be edited here (but not renamed) or can be accessed via the various administration sections they relate to throughout MemNet.
Depending on the editor type you can either manage and edit the template on the same page or for Pro Editor templates chose to Edit in Pro Editor OR View and Edit Details of the template.
See this section for details on how to use the Pro Editor.
When viewing and editing the details of the template you can:
- Edit the template in the appropriate editor for the template
- Send yourself a test to see what the template looks like.
- If the template used the Pro Editor, there is a button to download the HTML version of the email. this can be used to publish the email on your website or another external platform.
- You can delete the template. this cannot be undone
- You can rename the template by changing the name and clicking Save (Not available for admin templates)
- To copy a template rename the template and select Save As to create a copy of that template with the new name.
Creating Templates
There are 2 types of templates that you can create; a Simple Template and a Pro Template
Simple Templates utilise a simple HTML editor like you will find in most website CMS'. This is suitable for simple text-based emails or if you have professionally prepared HTML that you want to load into an email.
Pro Templates utilise our Pro Editor which allows you to design and build emails that are beautiful responsive on all devices using an intuitive drag and drop interface. We suggest using the Pro Editor for all of your email templates (unless you have a reason to create Simple Templates!).
Click the New Pro Template button and choose a starting point - Once you are proficient with the editor, the Blank Template is a good starting point, or copy an existing template to maintain consistency with your branding. You will need to provide a name for your new template before you start editing.
A note on naming templates:
Over time, the number of templates that you amass can get out of control, having a consistent naming convention will not allow you to easily find templates now but also allow you to easily identify templates that are redundant and can be deleted in the future.
Note that it is always possible to modify the content of a template when sending an email, the entire email does not need to be created as a template.
