This is a frequently asked question as there are several things that need to align for the single click renewals to work.
For the email to work, there must be a members subscription associated with the email being sent, this ensures that the correct subscription(s) are presented and renewed when the member clicks the link. This is particularly important if the member has multiple subscriptions on their profile.
Single click renewal links can be sent from many places in MemNet, requirements for the link to work in each are as follows:
When sending via Mail Generation:
As described in the Single Click Renewals article, when sending single click renewals via Mail Generation you must have:
- A subscription or multiple subscriptions as part of your search.
- Use a saved search. This allows for any changes or renewals between when the distribution is created and sent to be taken into consideration.
Note that if you include a number of days from the subscribed until date along with the selection of subscription(s) you can set this email to recur every day so it sends to members automatically. This is particularly useful for anniversary renewals.
When Processing Pending Transactions:
If you raise subscriptions for renewal invitations you can include a single click renewal link in the email sent to members whose correspondence preference is email. If using Subscipiton Invoices, you would need to include a single click invoice payment link.
In this case, if you send yourself a test email or preview the email with inserted fields the single click renewal link will work as the test is associated with the first recipient in the list and their selected subscription.
When sending an individual email:
There is an option to select the subscription to be merged into the email. If your email has a single click renewal link in it and you do not select a subscription, you will get a warning when you attempt to send the email and will be stopped from sending the email.

Notes:
- The subscription that is being renewed must be renewable by the member at the time the link is clicked. This includes
- The subscription is assigned to that member and is a current active subscription
- The member's status is Active.
- The person receiving the email is the main person, the accounting contact or a member administrator (when enabled).
- The subscription can be renewed online.
- If a lockout period is set, where subscriptions cannot be renewed more than a certain number of days before they are due, then the member is NOT locked out from renewing.
- When you send a test from email templates, the link will not work but the remainder of the email will appear as it will be sent.
